Science Projects

This page is for people who are interested in doing science projects that are safe. In the 7th grade we had done an experiment on elephant toothpaste. As my teacher, Mr. Hedmark, slowly splattered a sparkling chemical into a large cylinder with blue chemicals. The cylinder looked rusty and used for a long time. Suddenly, chunks of blue and green colored substances erupted out. The chemical reaction wouldn't stop as it kept on erupting for a long time.

Even though this experiment doesn't correspond with the human body, It definitely sparked my interest in science. Projects that will be posted here are going to correlate with the human body. I won't be posting any dangerous or complex experiments here but I can assure you that you will be amazed with these experiments and definitely have a good time!

Reaction Time Ruler Drop

What this tests: how fast your reaction time is

Materials: Ruler and partner

How it works: tell  your partner to  drop a ruler  and you have to catch it. Switch roles after you have gone. The person who catches the ruler the fastest wins.

Clay Brain Model

Goal: learn  the parts of the brain by building a 3D model

Materials: Different colors of Play-Doh, toothpicks or labels, a paper brain outline (optional)

How to do it:  Roll clay into different lobes

Frontal (front), Parietal (top), Temporal (sides), Occipital (back), Cerebellum (bottom), and Brainstem (base)

Then press them together into a brain shape, use toothpicks and flags to label each lobe and explain what each part does.

Balloon Lung Model

Goal: Show how lungs inflate and deflate with the diaphragm

Materials: Clear plastic water bottle (cut in half), 2 balloons, straw, tape or rubber band, and plastic wrap or another balloon

How to do it:

1. Cut the bottle in half and attach a ballon to the neck, this is the lung

2. Put a straw into the balloon's opening and seal it with tape

3. Cover the bottom with a stretched balloon or plastic wrap, this is the diaphragm

4. Pull down on the diaphragm, the lung inflates!
